Example of a Personalized Astrology Forecast

History repeats itself. Life is cyclical. Therefore, it is no surprise to astrologers that we work with wheels. Each natal chart and horoscope wheel is a picture of the sky from a specific location at a specific moment in time. The chart is what the sky would look like if you were laying on your back looking up at the stars at just that moment.

If we were to make it a video instead of a stagnant chart, we would see all of the planets of our solar system circling around and around a circular track at various speeds. Sometimes, they would appear to go backwards because of the fact that the planets do not really revolve around the earth and therefore, as we travel around the sun, it sometimes looks like the other planets are moving backwards and then forwards. We call a planet “retrograde” when it is moving backwards in the astrology chart.

In our hypothetical video, we would see the moon traveling fastest around the circle. Most daily horoscopes are based on the ever-changing effects of the moon. The sun, Venus, Mars, and Mercury would also be rather quick; creating short-term events, dramas, and the most obvious felt effects upon our lives. Jupiter and Saturn would be traveling at a moderate speed creating trends and themes that usually last between one and three years. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto would be seen traveling slowly and creating long-term effects and generational influences.

Since Venus and Mercury are closer to the sun than we are, they will never be very far from the sun when looking at an astrological chart. Mercury is always in the same zodiac sign as the sun or in the one just before or just after. Venus can end up a couple of zodiac signs away, but never more than 48 degrees away from the sun. Mars will sometimes lag way behind the sun or race ahead, but it is not uncommon to have him somewhere in the same general area. This is why sometimes in the forecasting, it will seem like I am writing the same thing over and over again. If Mercury, Venus, Mars, and the sun all take turns passing through an area within a few short weeks of each other and they all interact with one of the slower moving planets, then it will seem as if a topic will keep repeating itself during that “season”. This will become even more of a theme if any of the planets turn retrograde and backtrack to pass over the spot a few more times.

A horoscope chart is divided into twelve equally sized segments called houses. To make things less confusing for new readers, I often refer to the houses as sectors when explaining what is happening in a forecast. Each house is ruled by a zodiac sign. The rulers of these houses no longer match where the equivalent constellation is in the sky at this time in history. Therefore, when a planet is in the constellation called Taurus, it is not necessarily in the house that is ruled by Taurus. The two have shifted away from perfect alignment over the centuries.

There are ten planets and twelve zodiac signs. Therefore, Mercury and Venus each rules over two zodiac signs. There are asteroids and other planetoids also traveling around in our solar system and astrology scholars are debating how to best read their effects on us. For now, to keep things simple, I will only refer to the ten planets we are most familiar with. And yes, I will still call Pluto a planet because astrologically speaking he is still quite powerful.

Each planet rules a zodiac sign and a house. When a planet is in the sign and house that he rules over, it is like a king in his own castle in his own country. This is a powerful placement for that planet. Some planets are made weaker in various zodiac signs and are made stronger in others. A planet in charge of action and drive can feel quite stifled in a zodiac sign that focuses on detail work or bureaucracy. However, that same planet could feel quite powerful in a social zodiac sign, a sexual zodiac sign, or a zodiac sign that promotes traveling around the world.

In an individual’s personalized natal chart, we use the time, date, and location of that person’s birth to create a picture of the sky at the exact moment and location of birth. It is not unusual for a personalized chart to have unevenly sized houses. Everyone always has twelve houses, but they can be of various sizes depending on how things line up at that time. The zodiac signs in a natal chart rarely line up perfectly with the houses. A bigger house might have two or even three zodiac signs matched up with it.

When writing generic sun sign horoscopes, we have to pick a location and write it from that perspective. It usually does not matter too much what location is chosen. However, a full moon or new moon might occur near a date line or a time zone change. It could occur after midnight in New York and before midnight in Los Angeles. Therefore, one of the two is going to think I put the wrong date on the forecast. When possible, I try to remember to make a comment about that happening, but it is an easy detail to forget to mention when one is bogged down in the details of the forecasting, the interactions of the planets, and how that particular new moon or full moon is going to affect each zodiac sign. For the 2010 forecasts, I decided to use Washington, D.C. as the location. This is because I believe that what happens there, will profoundly affect the United States and so much of what happens in the rest of the world. It should rarely matter, but if it does, those of you in other countries and time zones can adjust the datelines accordingly.

When referring to a range of dates, for example if I say, “From October 11th 2009 through March 9th 2010, Saturn will be clashing with Pluto”. There might be one or more dates within that range when they are mathematically at the peak of their battle. Some astrologers might only mention those peak days in their forecasts. I offer a range of dates. I start with when the energy or dynamic will begin to be felt by most people and carry it through to the point where the energy has lost its power. My philosophy is that by letting you know that it is building up or that there is still a residual force at work then you are better able to plan accordingly. I look at it like a divorce. You might file for divorce on a specific date and it might become final on a specific date, but there is probably at least a few months that the whole “divorce” energy is dominating your life. The same thing applies with something good like getting married. You might get engaged on a specific day or get married on a specific day, but the whole “getting married” energy lasts for weeks, months, maybe even a few years.

When describing the various interactions between the planets I often refer to them as if they are personalities with genders and motives. To a point, when I look at a horoscope, I see a stage with a group of actors frozen in time. Each planet represents an archetype personality. Each zodiac sign represents a country ruled by one of the characters. And each house is a home owned by one of the characters. So, a king in his own castle might be feeling pretty powerful but if he’s in his enemies home, he could be feeling like stirring up trouble or he could feel like he is stifled and unable to get anything done. Spending time in a friend’s home can be fun, creative, stimulating, and/or just amusing. My job is to predict what is happening in that scene of that play and describe it from the perspective of each zodiac sign. Who is visiting whose home or country? Who is traveling backwards and returning to something they were recently focused on? Who is working together, falling in love, battling, or simply spending time alone doing their own thing? To a point, each zodiac sign resonates with the perspective of their ruling planet, so Venus’s behaviors, choices, motives, and perspectives make sense to Libra. So writing a Libra forecast is like writing Venus’ script for the scene about to be played. As William Shakespeare wrote, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players…”

Terminology and Technicalities

The Houses, Planets, and Zodiac Signs

The first house, Aries, and Mars rule over your outer personality, self-image, appearance, and how you present yourself to the world. It is like the gift-wrapping on a package. It is normal for people to guess your zodiac sign wrong and to think that your first house sign is the one that you were born under. I often refer to it as the "me, myself, and I" sector. The Ascendant aka Rising Sign is the spot in your chart that marks where the horizon was when you were born. This is where the twelfth house ends and the first house begins. First, we learn to identify who we are.

The second house, Taurus, and Venus rule over personal wealth, regular salaries, assets, “mine”, and self-worth. Cattle used to be a normal representation of a person’s wealth, so cattle is still listed in this section of your chart. Second, we learn to own things.

The third house, Gemini, and Mercury rule over interpersonal communications, speaking and writing skills, computers, telephones, fax machines, negotiations, commerce, small town thinking, elementary levels of education, extended family, siblings, neighbors, clansmen, (these are the people who teach us how to communicate and how to negotiate), automobiles, bicycles, skates, and other forms of local transportation (think Mercury zipping around the sun, but never going too far away). Third, we learn to communicate our needs, bargain, and become mobile.

The fourth house, Cancer, and the moon rule over residential matters, real estate, roommates, private life, nurturing, childhood issues, relationships with parents, retirement circumstances, and “coming home”. Fourth, we learn to create a safe place to call home.

The fifth house, Leo, and the sun rule over happiness, laughter, playtime activities, personal pleasure, creative self-expression, children, pets, lovers, romance, hobbies, fine dining, sports, and the love of music, theater, creative arts, etc. Fifth, once our basic needs are fulfilled, we turn our attention to our own happiness and creative self-expression.

The sixth house, Virgo, and Mercury rule over daily work, to-do lists, coworkers, productivity levels, organizational skills, detail work, physical health, and the ability to feel useful. Sixth, we look for purpose, something to make us feel that our existence matters.

The seventh house, Libra, and Venus rule over marriage, business partnerships, best friends, competitors, and yin-yang concepts. (This is the business side of marriage, not the romantic part. Romance and flirting is part of the fifth house of happiness. Intimacy and sexual unions are part of the eighth house of trust. Remember, marriages used to be business arrangements made by the parents.) Seventh, we learn to mate, to create meaningful commitments, to become part of a duo. This is the house that is always opposite of the first house. It is the “we” in comparison to the “I” mentality.

The eighth house, Scorpio, and Pluto rule over trust, sharing, sexual unions, fidelity, loyalty, “ours”, joint finances, commissions, stocks, lotteries, inheritances, profit sharing, the Phoenix Rising phenomenon and personal regeneration. (You have to trust that tomorrow will be a better day before you can surrender to a symbolic death and rebirth process.) Eighth, once we commit to someone, we learn to share and to build trust. It is the opposing concept of “ours” compared to “mine” found in the second house.

The ninth house, Sagittarius, and Jupiter rule over global thinking, long-distance travel, multicultural concepts, laws, religions, universities, advanced academia, publishing, broadcasting, and public speaking. The idea is to explore and learn, then to teach and share that global perspective. Ninth, we learn to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and to follow the rules of various cultures. It is the third house on steroids. Jupiter also brings good luck, prosperity, and abundance.

The tenth house, Capricorn, and Saturn rule over climbing the Ladder of Success, leadership, public reputation, professional goals and aspirations, fame and recognition, integrity, and work ethic. Saturn brings challenges and life lessons. Tenth, we learn to be leaders in our communities, that there are consequences to our actions and choices, and that sometimes it is others who suffer from our choices, therefore we have a civic duty to do our best and to stay out of trouble.

The eleventh house, Aquarius, and Uranus rule over group activities, socializing, friends, teams, clubs, committees, associations, networking, science, the Internet, and connectivity. I often refer to it as the "all for one and one for all" sector. Eleventh, we learn to be a team player, to be our unique individual self while also being part of something bigger than ourselves.

The twelfth house, Pisces, and Neptune rule over mental health, addictions, self-destructiveness, attitudes, inner peace, secrets, intuition, spiritual mysteries, paranormal activities, bureaucracies, hospitals, corporations, institutions, prisons, charities, and other hidden forces. Neptune can bring magical bliss and it can bring a deceitful fogginess to situations. Finally, we face the secret forces that shape us, motivate us either to connect spiritually with the world around us or to self-destruct. This is where we find our secret demons and our spiritual sanctuary of inner peace.

The Elements

Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. They are aloof thinkers that use their intellect to get them through life.

Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. They are emotional feelers that intuitively feel their way through life.

Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. They are 3D practical workers that rely on their five senses to guide them through life.

Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. They are fiery personalities that use their passion to charge through life.

The Qualities

Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. They bring in new concepts. Seasons begin.

Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. They hold the status quo. Seasons hold stable.

For You Personally

What you bring to the table: (This information is from your birth chart. It never changes. A bigger more explanatory version of this would be given in the personality profiles also offered through the website.)

Romantically – You have a Libra sun, a Scorpio Rising with Jupiter and Neptune conjunct in Scorpio, and Mars in the seventh house of marriage. On many levels, you need to be in a committed relationship. However, you also have an Aquarius Moon and Mercury conjunct Venus in Virgo. Your heart is not easily captured. You would rather wait for the right one than to marry just anyone who asks.

Professionally - You have three personal planets in your professionalism sector and two planets in your long-distance travel sector. Jupiter's conjunction with Neptune adds an aquatic and/or occult element to your good luck and prosperity. Mars in the seventh house also promotes working in business partnerships. Saturn rules over challenges and big life lessons. The idea is that what doesn’t break us makes us stronger. He is a teaching planet. As he passes through an area of your chart, he creates obstacles and challenges focused on that sector’s interests. Then if you learn your lessons well and conduct yourself with honor, he rewards you with a topic-related gift as he leaves that sector to move on to the next sector. For example, if he were in someone's professionalism sector, then that is the topic that the lessons and challenges would focus on. If the student learned their lessons well, they could be rewarded with a job promotion, awards, fame, positive publicity, and/or public recognition. This is how Saturn works. His goal is to bring good things to you, but you must earn them first. Most people whine and cry through the lessons portion and do not learn much, then they complain that Saturn is mean and evil towards them. The truth is that they did not earn the gifts they were meant to receive.

For you personally, Saturn has been hanging out in your long-distance travel, legal action, multicultural, and religious dogma sector. As you know, Saturn is changed zodiac signs September 2nd, but he is not actually leaving this area of your chart for another year. This is because just as he approaches the exit, he will turn retrograde yet again and will backtrack and revisit these topics one more time before finally moving forward again and exiting your global thinking sector. You can look for the troubles in this area of your life to completely end in August or September of 2008.

So what will change when Saturn changes zodiac signs if he is not going to be changing houses too? The style of teachings, if that makes sense. While in Leo, Saturn's lessons in this sector involved your personal happiness, greed, and luxury. Now the lessons will focus more on your organizational skills, your coworkers, and how useful do you feel. Does the work you do in these areas matter? Are you approaching the problems from a logical point of view rather than from a "why is everyone picking on me?" point of view. Virgo is all about taking matters into your own hands and finding your practical solutions. Therefore, even though Saturn is still challenging your international travel sector he is actually pushing you towards finding do-able solutions.

Also, Saturn is passing overtop of the location where Pluto was when you were born. Your spiritual, financial, and sexual needs as they pertain to the global thinking sector will be challenged. Does the work you do support your religious beliefs? Is a foreign lover or distant lover really in your best interest? Can you honestly count on them to be loyal and faithful through the years? Are you earning your fair share of the profits? These sorts of questions will arise on and off as Saturn passes back and forth over your natal Pluto over the next year. Answering these questions logically and honestly will earn you great rewards later when Saturn finishes with this sector and moves on.

Jupiter is in charge of good luck, prosperity, and abundance. He is still blessing your “me, myself, and I” sector. Jupiter rules over Sagittarius, so he is doubly strong as he blesses you in a very personal way. Jupiter will leave this area in early December. He will be moving into your personal wealth sector to begin blessing your finances. You can start planning for financial abundance now. Plant the seeds so that they can blossom during the 14 or 15 months that he will be blessing this area of your life.

To begin with, let us look at old transits that are still affecting you at this time…

From August 18th through September 28th, Venus continues moving backwards through your chart and is now in that spot where Saturn was for six months when he was opposing Neptune. So once again, the travel, communications, philosophy, religious, or legal issue comes up. Venus rules over seduction, partnerships, and personal wealth, so you can expect those topics to flair up again. You are being given another chance to show what you have learned in these areas over the last year.

From September 2nd through the 15th, Mars in your marriage and business partnership sector will begin working with Neptune in your negotiations and communications sector. Venus and Neptune are still creating a battle between your small town and global outlooks. They are also still messing with your travel plans, communications efforts, and educational endeavors. However, now with Mars' help from your marriage and business partnership sector, you could find that a lover, best friend, business partner, or even a competitor is able to help smooth things over. Let this other person help you. They have strength, stamina, and enthusiasm that helps to get everyone brainstorming win-win solutions.

From September 6th through the 13th, the sun in your professionalism sector opposes Uranus in your residential sector. This is another tug-of-war between your private life and your public life. It is not that you are being fake, but who you are behind closed doors may not match who you are professionally and that difference is causing things to get pretty tense right now. Uranus rules over how we can be our own unique special selves… while also being a team player and part of a larger community. Corporate America doesn't really give a darn who we are at home; they just want a professional polished business persona. You have no desire to live up to that image, but you also don't want to be seen as a radical nonconformist either. You will have to find balance between the two extremes.

September 11th through the 23rd, Mars in your partnerships sector is clashing with the sun in your professionalism sector. The sun is in the same spot in your chart where Mercury and Venus were when you were born. Therefore, this is going to trigger a lot of personal identity issues. A business partner, romantic partner, or competitor is not happy with your professional image. They are either grumbling to you about it or they are publicly smearing your name. It feels more personal than usual because of your birth planets being involved. From September 12th through the 14th, Mercury and Jupiter blend energies to create some good news in your financial sector. From September 13th through the 29th, Mars and Pluto are at war. These are the two most masculine planets of the zodiac, the warriors in charge of forms of passion, personal power, and strength and stamina. Mars comes at it from an "in your face" perspective, like the Ram that is his mascot. Pluto comes at it from a hidden unexpected angle, much like the Scorpion that represents his energy. (I've decided that a really really close best friend counts as a "partner.") From September 16th through the 22nd, the sun gets into the middle of the war between Mars in your marriage and business partnership sector and Pluto in your "me, myself, and I" sector. The sun is in your professionalism, public reputation, and success sector, so once again the two of you (spouse, best friend, or business partner) are arguing over how you present yourself publicly. It is also possible that they do not like your choice of careers. Maybe they think you could do better for yourself and that you are settling for less. A competitor could be running a smear campaign against you too.

From September 21st through October 5th, Mercury lends Mars a hand. Mercury is in your teamwork and networking sector and Mars is in your marriage, business partnerships, and competitors sector. A friend or colleague can help you to smooth things over with your spouse, business partner, or competitor. It is also a great time for socializing with this partner as a way of lightening things up between the two of you.

From September 23rd through the 25th, Mercury helps with the Mars versus Pluto war once again. Once again, a friend, teammate, committee member, professional associate, or the Internet helps to smooth over the battle between you and a spouse, business partner, best friend, or competitor/enemy. This person is a great mediator and they are willing to help the two of you negotiate peace talks.

From September 23rd through October 23rd (yes one full month), Jupiter and Uranus will not be getting along. Jupiter is in your "me, myself, and I" sector trying to bring you good luck, prosperity, and abundance into your life. Uranus is in your residential sector trying to bring a unique, quirky, eccentric energy full of pleasant surprises to your housing situation, retirement plans, home improvement projects, real estate deals, and to your relationships with your roommates and/or parents. It does not matter how you end whatever it is that you are ending about your situation… the trust, sharing, sex, or the money is going to be negatively affected. I hate to say this… but it could be an ending of a parent relationship that negatively affects your inheritance too. Be very careful how you handle this full moon.

From September 29th through October 4th, Mercury works with Saturn. At this point, Mercury is in your friendships, teammates, clubs, committees, networking, Internet, and connectivity sector. Saturn is in your global sector. This is an awesome time for making friends with people from all over the world, networking, travel, and academic pursuits are all easier because of your ability to work well with groups of people. Traveling with friends could be wonderful. Maybe it's time to head to Mexico?

From October 3rd through the 17th, Mars starts working with Saturn to create long-term positive changes in your life. Mars is in your trust and sharing (sex and money) sector and Saturn is still in your global sector. This is a good time for international business development, travel industry profit sharing, sexual relationships with foreigners, and such. They are trying to bring a long-term positive energy into the situation so use it well.

From October 6th through the 10th, the sun in your networking, socializing, and Internet sector blends well with Jupiter in your "me, myself, and I" sector. You are popular and likable yet again. This is a great time for face-to-face and Internet-based social and business networking.

October 10th hosts another new moon in your networking sector. Neptune blesses this new moon from your contract negotiations, communications, clansmen, computers, and commerce sector. Jupiter in your "me, myself, and I" sector is still blessing it too. This is an awesome time for new beginnings involving your friendships, business networks, new websites, new committees, new club memberships, etc. With Neptune's involvement from your third house, you could find that contract negotiations, computer work on websites, and heart-to-hear chats with friends could really work well at this time. From October 10th through the 19th, Mercury begins working with Mars again. Mars is bringing stamina and personal power to your trust and sharing (sex and money) sector. This is a great time for working on your taxes, bank loans, and sexual unions of a spiritual nature. What I think is more important is that Mars is in an area that also governs the Phoenix Rising from the ashes type stuff ~ not talked about too much in astrology. And Mercury is in mental health, attitudes, and self-undoing. This is an awesome time for you to work on your own personal transformation. You have come through a lot and in the process, you have been trying to redefine who/what you are. This is a great time to heal and work through old stuff… get rid of attitudes and philosophies that no longer work for you.

From October 11th through the 17th, Venus catches up with Saturn. The two of them will work together to help bring long-term wealth and love to your global sector. Saturn promotes long-term smart choices and Venus promotes seduction, personal wealth, and beauty. Venus also rules over marriage and business partnerships, so this is a lovely energy for a business partnership or a romantic partnership with a foreigner.

From October 15th through the 21st, Mercury connects quite nicely with Saturn. Mercury is in your mental health, secrets, spiritual mysteries, and bureaucracies sector trying to bring more intelligence, persuasion, and negotiation power to these areas of your life. Saturn is still in your travel and foreigners sector challenging you to learn more. From October 21st through the 28th, Venus is opposing Uranus. Venus is bringing diplomacy, partnership, and wealth to your professionalism, goals, and Ladder of Success sector. Uranus is bringing surprises, the Internet, and teamwork to your residential sector. Your private life and your professional life are at war. Residential matters, roommate troubles, issues with your parents, etc… could be keeping you from focusing on your professional goals. Luckily, it is a short-term issue for now.

From October 22nd through November 8th, Jupiter and Neptune are getting along nicely. Jupiter is still in your "me, myself, and I" sector bringing good luck, abundance, and prosperity into your life. Jupiter also rules over the ninth house where you have all of that global energy happening, so know that he is trying to bring you good luck in your travel business ventures. Neptune is in your communications and negotiations sector bringing a more spiritual and peaceful energy into your writing and outlook towards business contracts. You could find that you get along quite nicely with your extended family, you are able to write quite beautifully at this time, and/or you are able to negotiate business contracts that you feel really good about.
