There is so much more to astrology than what your sun sign is (your core personality).  There is your moon sign (your emotions), your Venus sign (your attitudes about love and money), your Mars sign (your passions and driving force), your Rising sign (your outer personality and how you package yourself), etc etc etc.  Do you want to know more about who you are and why you do not fit perfectly within the description of your sun sign?  Maybe you are an Aquarius with a lot of planets in Capricorn which causes you to be more mellow, responsible, and commitment-oriented than a “normal” Aquarian.  Maybe you have a Gemini moon and really can hold two sets of conflicting emotions at the same time without having to pick just one “feeling” to lead you.  Order your own personality profile and find out about the various pieces of you and how they interact.

Terminology and Technicalities

The Houses, Planets, and Zodiac Signs

The first house, Aries, and Mars rule over your outer personality, self-image, appearance, and how you present yourself to the world.  It is like the gift-wrapping on a package.  It is normal for people to guess your zodiac sign wrong and to think that your first house sign is the one that you were born under.  I often refer to it as the "me, myself, and I" sector.  The Ascendant aka Rising Sign is the spot in your chart that marks where the horizon was when you were born.  This is where the twelfth house ends and the first house begins.  First, we learn to identify who we are.

The second house, Taurus, and Venus rule over personal wealth, regular salaries, assets, “mine”, and self-worth.  Cattle used to be a normal representation of a person’s wealth, so cattle is still listed in this section of your chart.  Second, we learn to own things.

The third house, Gemini, and Mercury rule over interpersonal communications, speaking and writing skills, computers, telephones, fax machines, negotiations, commerce, small town thinking, elementary levels of education, extended family, siblings, neighbors, clansmen, (these are the people who teach us how to communicate and how to negotiate), automobiles, bicycles, skates, and other forms of local transportation (think Mercury zipping around the sun, but never going too far away).  Third, we learn to communicate our needs, bargain, and become mobile.

The fourth house, Cancer, and the moon rule over residential matters, real estate, roommates, private life, nurturing, childhood issues, relationships with parents, retirement circumstances, and “coming home”.  Fourth, we learn to create a safe place to call home.

The fifth house, Leo, and the sun rule over happiness, laughter, playtime activities, personal pleasure, creative self-expression, children, pets, lovers, romance, hobbies, fine dining, sports, and the love of music, theater, creative arts, etc.  Fifth, once our basic needs are fulfilled, we turn our attention to our own happiness and creative self-expression.

The sixth house, Virgo, and Mercury rule over daily work, to-do lists, coworkers, productivity levels, organizational skills, detail work, physical health, and the ability to feel useful.  Sixth, we look for purpose, something to make us feel that our existence matters.

The seventh house, Libra, and Venus rule over marriage, business partnerships, best friends, competitors, and yin-yang concepts.  (This is the business side of marriage, not the romantic part.  Romance and flirting is part of the fifth house of happiness.  Intimacy and sexual unions are part of the eighth house of trust.  Remember, marriages used to be business arrangements made by the parents.)  Seventh, we learn to mate, to create meaningful commitments, to become part of a duo.  This is the house that is always opposite of the first house.  It is the “we” in comparison to the “I” mentality.

The eighth house, Scorpio, and Pluto rule over trust, sharing, sexual unions, fidelity, loyalty, “ours”, joint finances, commissions, stocks, lotteries, inheritances, profit sharing, the Phoenix Rising phenomenon and personal regeneration.  (You have to trust that tomorrow will be a better day before you can surrender to a symbolic death and rebirth process.)  Eighth, once we commit to someone, we learn to share and to build trust.  It is the opposing concept of “ours” compared to “mine” found in the second house.

The ninth house, Sagittarius, and Jupiter rule over global thinking, long-distance travel, multicultural concepts, laws, religions, universities, advanced academia, publishing, broadcasting, and public speaking.  The idea is to explore and learn, then to teach and share that global perspective.  Ninth, we learn to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and to follow the rules of various cultures.  It is the third house on steroids.  Jupiter also brings good luck, prosperity, and abundance.

The tenth house, Capricorn, and Saturn rule over climbing the Ladder of Success, leadership, public reputation, professional goals and aspirations, fame and recognition, integrity, and work ethic.  Saturn brings challenges and life lessons.  Tenth, we learn to be leaders in our communities, that there are consequences to our actions and choices, and that sometimes it is others who suffer from our choices, therefore we have a civic duty to do our best and to stay out of trouble.

The eleventh house, Aquarius, and Uranus rule over group activities, socializing, friends, teams, clubs, committees, associations, networking, science, the Internet, and connectivity.  I often refer to it as the "all for one and one for all" sector.  Eleventh, we learn to be a team player, to be our unique individual self while also being part of something bigger than ourselves.

The twelfth house, Pisces, and Neptune rule over mental health, addictions, self-destructiveness, attitudes, inner peace, secrets, intuition, spiritual mysteries, paranormal activities, bureaucracies, hospitals, corporations, institutions, prisons, charities, and other hidden forces.  Neptune can bring magical bliss and it can bring a deceitful fogginess to situations.  Finally, we face the secret forces that shape us, motivate us either to connect spiritually with the world around us or to self-destruct.  This is where we find our secret demons and our spiritual sanctuary of inner peace.

Overview:

Sun in 10th house Scorpio:  Scorpios are often misunderstood.  They are rumored to be the sex addicts of the zodiac, but in reality, they are no more so than anyone else is.  Scorpios rule the area of the zodiac wheel that governs sharing and trust.  Therefore, the sharing of money, resources, bodies, spirituality, dreams, etc. is very important to them.  This is why they are so vindictive and jealous when crossed.  Breaking trust is the very worst thing someone can do.  Scorpios are typically street smart, like to get to the root of things, and have a high level of personal drive and stamina.  They thrive on competition and therefore make great athletes and business managers.  Financial security is important because they can get jealous of others having more than them.  They love the game of acquiring money and possessions.

Tenth house suns have a need to achieve something of importance.  This is often a career-related topic, but can also come from other non-work related activities too.  A professional athlete, celebrity fame, philanthropic giving, local hero, high profile marriages, political aspirations, and a leadership role within one’s clan can all have the same affect as climbing the ladder of success.  It is all about feeling like an important and useful member of society.

Capricorn Ascendant (Rising Sign):  Capricorn rules over the concepts of professionalism, civic duty, integrity, work ethics, fame, and public recognition.  It is all about how you are seen by the general public.  Therefore, people with a Capricorn Ascendant often come across as stoic, serious, conservative types.  Deep down they can be wild and crazy or they can be studious and boring.  Either way, they present a professional exterior image.  You will have to dig deeper to find out who they really are on the inside.  Sometimes what you see is not always what you get.  It is not that they are deliberately trying to be fake, but that they genuinely need to be seen as responsible logical members of society.

Moon in 1st house Capricorn:  Capricorn Moons are often accused of being the coldest most unemotional of all of the moons.  Capricorn in general is logical, stoic, and dutiful.  They see things in shades of black and white, so emotionally there is not much to show.  A Capricorn Moon is going to be loyal, faithful, and very low drama.  They do not get sappy.  They do not throw tantrums.  They do not cry easily.  Emotionally, they need to feel respected and they feel that the best way to honor another person is to be respectful towards them.  That is not deemed very sexy and exciting by a lot of other zodiac signs, but it is a matter of trust, integrity, and overall respectability as far as the Capricorn Moon is concerned.

First house moons soften the harder aspects of a person’s chart.  It encourages a gentler kinder version of the person.  They often have a tendency to care for and to protect other people.  This person’s intuition and emotions will be very powerful forces in their lives.  This is an empathic person.

Mercury in 11th house Scorpio:  Scorpio Mercury adds determination, decisiveness, plotting, scheming, and goal-oriented dynamics.  Excellent intellectual powers, but could become obsessive.  On an intuitive level, they know what needs to be done in most situations, even if they do not always take action.  They love to uncover hidden secrets and to explore mysteries.  Can be resentful or jealous.  They are good with money.

Eleventh house Mercurys are social butterflies.  This is the planet of communications, negotiations, extended family, and neighbors in the house of friendships, social connectivity, networking, and teamwork.  They have a natural gift of gab and can find something interesting to talk about no matter who they are with in the moment.  This is also the planet of computers in the house of science and the Internet.  This person can probably take apart and rebuild just about any machine you present to them.  This is a naturally bright person who understands why all of the pieces fit together to create the final product.

Venus in 10th house Scorpio:  With Venus in Scorpio, there will still be a need for a very sexual and spiritual bond in relationships.  Scorpio gives Venus seductive sex appeal, but also a need for deep trust and sharing on all levels.  Scorpio Venus does not have sex just for the sake of sex, but to truly make love on a deeply spiritual level.  These people are looking for a real soulmate.  Unless there is something really strong in their chart to change this, Scorpio Venusians cannot tolerate shallow meaningless relationships.  Scorpio rules shared finances and Venus rules personal wealth.  With Venus in Scorpio, financial security and trust is very important.  They are looking for a partner who agrees with their needs for sexual union, spiritual connection, and fiscal responsibility.

Tenth house Venus needs other people to work with.  They can work alone, but are really at their best when working with others.  They need to have a deep meaningful connection with the work that they are doing.  It cannot be something superficial and without merit.

Mars in 12th house Capricorn:  Capricorn Mars is professionally ambitious and often power-hungry.  They have natural leadership skills, stamina, down-to-earth logic, and are not foolish risk-takers.  They are rarely clumsy or accident-prone.  They tend to be good at climbing the Ladder of Success, much like surefooted goats swiftly making their way up the jagged mountainside that others find difficult and emotionally or physically trying.  These are people who enjoy taking a bite out of life and going after what they want.

Twelfth house Mars promotes working in the caring professions.  This is a good placement for therapists, social workers, counselors, healers, and others who want to earn their living by helping those in need.  There is a tendency to not want to burden close friends and loved ones with personal problems, yet a tendency to take on other people’s problems as if they were their own.

Jupiter in 2nd house Aquarius:  Aquarius gives Jupiter a wonderfully humanitarian aspect.  They also have a clever imagination and are rather original in some aspect of their life.  This person is social, warm, friendly, and quite tolerant.  There can be scientific or technological talents as well as musical or literary gifts.  Often these talents do not easily show up, but may be discovered by accident.  This aspect can increase stubbornness, intuition, and eccentricities too.

Second house Jupiter brings abundance to the earned income sector.  The urge for financial success and the willingness to take financial risks is higher than usual.  The person is not likely to be greedy though.  They would gladly share their wealth with a partner or loved one.

Saturn in 8th house Virgo:  Virgo rules over details, daily work, and coworkers.  Saturn rules over professionalism, public image, inner critics, and karma.  When Saturn is in Virgo, he creates a wonderfully detail-oriented, dependable, smart, hard working person.  However, this person probably has a harsh taskmaster approach to work and can drive their coworkers and themselves crazy trying to achieve impossibly high expectations.  Their challenge is to put their perfectionism to good use without alienating everyone around them.  They also have to give themselves permission to not HAVE to be perfect.

Eighth house Saturn is an ideal placement for someone who is in charge of financially providing for others.  Banking, investments, and insurance industries could be good for this person.  They take their obligations seriously and can become obsessive or even depressed easily because of it.  This is someone with a wonderful gift for investigation and could have a fascination with criminology, life after death, and detective work.  Romantically, they could have trouble with guilt or an overly serious attitude towards sexuality.  They may be too quick to assume others are being unfaithful and this could lead to break ups.  They have a well-developed sense of intuition and need to rely on it rather than jumping to conclusions.

Uranus in 6th house Cancer:  Uranus rules the “Age of Aquarius” type events currently going on now.  Cancer rules maternal instincts, nurturing, childhood issues, and parents.  Uranus is logical and team-oriented while Cancer is intuitive and emotional.  This can be an odd but pleasant combination of traits to integrate into one’s personality.

Sixth house Uranus gives a flair for innovation.  Uranus rules science, the Internet, and electricity.  Putting this planet in the house of daily work tasks gives a very clever intellect for on-the-job brainstorming.  Uranus brings out more of the one of a kind original thinker while at work.  This placement will not tolerate dull mundane activities.  Physical health is also governed by this sector, so the health could be rather chaotic and erratic.

Neptune in 9th house Libra:  Neptune has a generational effect because it is so slow moving through the signs.  (1942 – 1957)  These people combine Libra’s desire to have everything peaceful, beautiful, and harmonious with Neptune’s self-deception, addictions, and mental health issues.  This is a generation that tends to believe in “flower power” and “lollypopisms.”

The spiritual and religious studies found in the ninth house may be just what Neptune wants to chew on.  This individual can become quite religious in a traditional dogmatic manner.  They may find peace and solace in the rituals and ceremonies of a cultural religious practice.

Pluto in 7th house Leo:  Pluto is another generational planet.  (1937 – 1957)  Pluto rules passion and Leo is rather self-obsessed.  Together this is a warlike time.  “My way or the highway” type attitudes prevail.  This pairing is great for leadership skills if the person is careful not to become an ogre.

Seventh house Pluto is a very good aspect for someone involved in financial partnerships.  They have a tendency to be smart about the business end of working within a partnership.  However, this is not so great in emotional partnerships like marriages.  The person could be incredibly loving one day, cold as ice another day, volatile another day, and back to wonderful again.  The intensity and diversity of emotions can be very difficult on a romantic partner.

Major Aspects:

Trines and sextiles are when two aspects blend their energies together in a positive useful form.  Oppositions and squares are when two aspects butt heads or clash.  Conjunctions are when two or more planets are pig-piled on top of each other creating a unified energy.

Capricorn's ruler Saturn in Scorpio's house and Scorpio Sun/Venus in Capricorn's house:  This person's chart is a yin-yang of Scorpio/Capricorn energies.  They have Saturn's ruler Capricorn in Scorpio's 8th house.  This makes the person do Scorpio tasks in a Capricorn manner.  And they have their Scorpio Sun and Venus in Capricorn's 10th house.  This means that they do Capricorn tasks in a Scorpio way.  Add to that the fact that this person has three strong planets in Scorpio with a Rising sign and two strong planets in Capricorn and you get a very strong Capricorn/Scorpio blend.  This person is as much Capricorn as they are Scorpio.  Luckily, these two zodiac signs have much in common and they do not clash.  This person has little internal battles.  This person has Scorpio's passion and tenacity with Capricorn's honor and conservativeness.  Unlike many Scorpios who can let their passions rule over them, this person has the ability to temper their passions and focus their sights on the goal at hand.  This person is a natural leader regardless of whatever industry they work in.

Sun conjunct Venus:  When Venus and the sun are conjunct in a chart, the person is more inclined towards showing their softer side.  They are more loving, more compassionate, more artistic, more feminine, and more caring than their sun sign (Scorpio) normally would be.  This is someone who wants to be the best that Scorpio has to offer.  They are a gentler leader than a typical Scorpio.  This is also a very seductive person, but only on their own terms.

Pluto squares Sun/Venus:  This person often has a difficult time opening up to others.  She can be obsessive at times, but the Venus conjunction helps her to soften up a bit about it.  She is too hard on herself and she knows it.  She has a hard time burdening friends and family with her personal problems, so she is more comfortable talking with a therapist or some other outside professional.

Mercury sextiles Saturn:  This is a very logical, methodical, and straightforward person.  They say what they mean and they mean what they say.  This is a very intelligent person who has full control over their mental processes.  They are rarely ever "lost" or delusional.

Mars oppose Uranus:  This person has an internal battle to overcome.  The "me, myself, and I" warrior planet is opposing the "freedom fighter" team player planet.  One is a "do it my way" planet and the other is a "think about the greater good" planet.  This battle plays out in their bureaucracy versus productivity sector.  This person probably hates working in Corporate America because they cannot tolerate the bureaucracy and red tape.  This person has unique ideas and wants to implement them in their work so bossy bureaucrats could drive them insane.  She could later beat herself up for not being open to playing the game.

Mars sextiles Midheaven:  The Midheaven is the part of the chart that launches the professional and public recognition goals.  This is someone who needs to succeed and is quite capable of doing so.  Climbing the Ladder of Success is easier for this person than it is for others.  She is a natural leader, her hard work pays off, and she is quite driven professionally.

Karma:

I'm not completely sure how well astrology shows us our past lives and/or if past lives are even a reality… however, it is entertaining to see what the stars say about such things and sometimes people do feel that the "reading" helps them to see why they are suffering whatever life challenges they might be dealing with in this lifetime.

Sagittarius rules 12th house:  This indicates a past life where the person was careless or selfishly involved in their own interests to the point that they caused someone else great harm.  Sagittarius karma tends to involve abandonment, where they left someone alone too long because they got too involved in other things to make it back in time.  In this lifetime, they must learn to be more careful and/or to not allow their own personal whims to negatively affect others.

Saturn in 8th house Virgo:  Saturn in Virgo fears physical illness.  These people either suffer from handicaps and poor health to teach them the value of allowing others to serve and care for them.  Or, they enter a medical profession to fight against the illnesses they fear.  Either way, they are learning about the mind body connections.  These people also tend to get stuck in tedious or boring jobs.

Eighth house Saturn tends to mean one of two things.  Either the person was abused financially or sexually in a past life and this has created trust and sharing issues.  They could have a very difficult time opening up and trusting others.  Or they could be repressing their own sexual feelings.  It is also possible they might fear getting too close to others because they do not want to unleash intensely passionate feelings (good or bad) again in this lifetime.  The other option is that they were the abuser in the past life and so in this lifetime they are forced to deal with bad financial partners, sexual abuse, or some form of psychological abuse to pay back the debt owed.

Nodes in the Virgo/Pisces axis and the 2nd/8th house axis:  The North Node in the second house means that they are to learn financial self-sufficiency.  They are supposed to learn how to build up their self-worth (emotionally and financially) independent of others.  North Node in Pisces means the person is trying to bring the spiritual, emotional, or occult into their ability to serve others.  They may become healers, mental health professionals, psychics, professional care givers, or find some other way to bring their spiritual and creative intuition into their day-to-day mundane work duties.

The South Node in the eighth house means that they have spent many lifetimes being part of a couple.  They have learned so well how to be part of an “us” and “we” mindset that they do not know how to be their own person and how to earn their own way financially.  In this lifetime, they may be forced to learn how to go it alone, especially on a financial level in this life, but they will not get any real thrill out of the money.  They would still rather share it with someone else.  South Node in Virgo means the person was most likely a medical practitioner in a past life.  They were detailed, organized, and precise.  Now they are learning to be more intuitive, creative, and spiritually trusting in their daily life.  They could also be forced to suffer a lot of medical or emotional problems in this lifetime to help them learn the mind-body-spirit connection.

The 2nd/8th house axis is about learning to balance self worth with focusing on others’ worth - their needs versus someone else’s needs.  They have to learn to go it alone and not be defined as half of a duo.  They especially have to learn to quit giving so much of their self away to others, always building the other person up while forgetting to build their own self up.

The Virgo/Pisces axis is identical to the 6th/12th axis.  This person has a yin-yang aspect between the karma nodes.  They are meant to be practical and logical but also to be intuitive and spiritual.  Somewhere there is a balanced medium in between fantasy and reality, spirituality and dogma, humility and productivity.
