The problem is that most people cannot afford to hire a personal life coach.  The average fee (as of May 2006) is around $160 per hour.  People are expected to pay anywhere between $400-700 each month for a telephone conversation every 7-10 days and some follow up emails.  If this sort of thing was in the average person’s budget, they might also consider hiring a personal trainer, a professional organizer, a wedding planner, and a personal assistant as the need arose.  But the truth is, as much as we would love to, we just cannot afford to hire help.  The result is, most life coaches are unable to support themselves doing this kind of work even though they love the work and find great personal satisfaction in helping others.

Many would argue that success, peace of mind, and self-confidence are invaluable, that you cannot put a price tag on such things.  It is not that people would not be willing to pay $500 each month to have someone help them set goals, lose weight, find their ideal career path, or learn how to become more self-assured.  Most people simply cannot spare that kind of money on a regular basis.  To make matters worse, there are no guarantees that a life coach can completely heal, fix, reorganize, or empower you.  Athletic coaches know all too well that you cannot guarantee your team a win.  You can only help them to do their best and to enjoy the process of living life to the fullest.

When compared to doctors’ and lawyers’ hourly rate, the Life Coach does not appear to be charging too much.  But here is the catch.  Most of us do not keep a doctor or lawyer on retainer always available and ready at our first cry for help.  We pay doctors and lawyers as much as we do because we have no choice.  We need their help and they know it.  To some extent the insurance companies and the legal system have made their hourly rates necessary.  We do not have to hire a life coach the way we sometimes have to hire a doctor.  Life coaches are not under government regulations and they are not sued for malpractice.  They really do not have to charge as much as they do.

In response to this problem, Skye Thomas, CEO of Tomorrow’s Edge an Internet leader in inspiring leaps of faith is encouraging other Life Coaches to consider lowering their prices.  “It’s supply and demand.  Lot’s of people want life coaches, but few can afford it.  The coach who lowers their rates will pick up more business and ultimately will touch more lives.”  To test her theory, Skye has begun offering Life Coaching through her website www.TomorrowsEdge.net at $30 per half-hour on a pay as you go basis to see if more people will utilize coaching services.  “Luckily, I’ve got my day job to fall back on, so if things don’t work out I won’t have to eat too much crow!” laughs Skye.

Need help making sense of things?

Sometimes we just need some good advice.  We aren’t in need of a therapist or a mental health professional.  It can be a simple fork in the road and not being sure which path to take.  It can be a loved one who is driving us crazy and we just need some ideas about how to make things more peaceful.  Sometimes we have a vague idea of what we want and no idea how to get started.  Sometimes we just need someone to tell us we are not “crazy” or “wrong” for feeling the way that we feel.  Sometimes we just need to talk to an impartial third party who will actually listen to what we have to say without prejudice ears.  Sometimes we need to know if it’s time to give up on an unrequited love.  Sometimes we simply need to know that someone believes in us and in our goals.

What topics can she help you with?

The best way to get to know Skye’s specialties, personal style, and overall belief systems is to read through some of the free articles offered through this website.  Links to the various topics are listed on the side bar.  If after reading some of her work, you feel that she is just the person to talk to about your personal situation, then come back and get yourself set up to talk to Skye.

What can you expect from Skye?

Skye will honor the confidential nature of this type of relationship.  She will listen to you and ask questions meant to get you thinking outside the box.  She will offer advice and help you to brainstorm solutions to your problems.  Most importantly, Skye will do her best to inspire and encourage you to create a life that is both fulfilling and meaningful to you.  In her own words Skye says, “I promise to genuinely care.  The minute I start feeling like this is just a job and not something I’m doing from my heart, then I’ll quit doing it.”

We have set up two different methods for working with Skye

She can talk with you over the telephone or via emails.

The telephone method allows the two of you to work together over the telephone.  You would set up a time together and discuss the topics that are concerning you - things that you want to change, heal, fix - or how you can go about making your dreams come true.

The email version is naturally more economical and easier for both you and Skye to fit into your schedules.  When discussing your situation through emails, you can write as much as you like and take as long as you need to spell it all out.  You are NOT charged for your own time.  You would only be charged for Skye’s time spent reading, analyzing, and responding to your emails.  It’s more economical for those of you with busy schedules or who are on a tight budget.

You are also welcome to combine the two methods if you like.  You decide what you need and when you need it.

Time is sold in half hour increments because quite often you just need a quick “pick me up” and not a complete overhaul.  Don’t be shy, she’s really easy to talk to and wants to help you get things back on track as quickly as possible.

So how do you get started?

Decide how much time you want to start out with.  If you are unsure, “less is best.”  (You can always come back and add more later.)  Then after you make the payment, send an email to Skye@TomorrowsEdge.net introducing yourself and letting her know what you have in mind and how you would like to proceed.  Most of the time, you will get a response within a few hours.  Occasionally, due to illnesses, heavy work loads, or crashing computer systems it can take a couple of days before she can respond.  However, she does make a big effort to acknowledge your introduction right away.

Life Coaching is Overpriced!

Life coaches are people who have a knack for helping people.  Like any other type of coach, they are a blend of cheerleader, counselor, mentor, trusted friend, and advisor.  They inspire, motivate, and cheer their clients on towards success.  Many go through some kind of certification process so that they can fine-tune their listening skills and learn how to ask thought provoking questions that get the client thinking outside of the box.  Just like with athletic coaches, life coaches are only as effective as the relationship they build with others.  A beloved coach of any kind can inspire an individual to bypass their inner critic and live up to their full potential.
